This is a new early season event that started in 2021 and has grown year-on-year since. It is sponsored by Anglia Ruskin University and starts and finishes at the universities impressive new campus in Chelmsford. It is really 3 races in one; 5k, 10k and Half-Marathon, all starting and finishing at the same location. The 10k and Half Marathon follow the same route for about 4k before separating. The 5k and 10k stay close to Chelmsford centre and utilise many of the City’s footpaths and river frontage. The Half Marathon goes further afield, taking the A120 past Great Baddow and Sandon, before returning to the City via Chelmer Village. All roads are closed to traffic for the event. It is not the most scenic of courses, but does make use of footpaths where possible.
There is a big field of runners for the events (> 2,000, the majority doing the Half) and as the start includes all types of runners and is not divided by distance it can get busy. So if you want a fast time, it is worth getting to the start early to get near the front. However there are pacers for the Half Marathon, so you can find the pacer for your target time. It is an impressive, well run event, although the 2023 edition did start 20 minutes late due to a delay in the road closures, although suspect that was not the organisers fault.
Parking is not possible at the university, so you need to park in one of the many local car parks. The car park at Rectory Lane is probably the best, being a 5 minute walk to the campus. Also as the event is on a Sunday the car park is approx. £2 for the day.
